Methods

The authors clinically assessed thymic (Thymalin) and pineal (Epithalamin) peptide bioregulators in 266 elderly and older persons over 6–8 years. The preparations were applied for the first 2–3 years of observation; a separate group received Thymalin plus Epithalamin annually for 6 years. PubMed indexes the article as a randomized controlled trial, but the English abstract does not describe randomization, blinding, or allocation. Treat the design as a long-term clinical series unless the primary text shows otherwise. This page does not reprint the publisher PDF.

Findings

The authors report improved indices of cardiovascular, endocrine, immune, and nervous systems, homeostasis, and metabolism, with a 2.0–2.4-fold decrease in acute respiratory disease and reduced clinical manifestations of ischemic heart disease, hypertension, deforming osteoarthrosis, and osteoporosis versus control. They report mortality lower by 2.0–2.1-fold with Thymalin, 1.6–1.8-fold with Epithalamin, 2.5-fold with both, and 4.1-fold in the group treated annually for 6 years, compared with control.

Those mortality ratios are the authors’ report from this series. This is not independently replicated evidence that these preparations prolong human life, and it is not a product claim. Follow the PMID.
