Methods
Human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPLSCs) and human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (hGMSCs) at passage 25, split into untreated controls, AEDG (Epitalon), or KED. Senescence markers p16 and p21 were measured by RT-PCR and immunofluorescence. Fold changes versus control are those reported by the authors (AEDG 1.56–2.44-fold lower p16/p21 mRNA; KED 1.82–3.23-fold lower). Findings
The authors report that both peptides reduced p16 and p21 expression at late passage and that immunofluorescence matched the PCR direction. They suggest AEDG and KED as medium supplements to delay senescence-marker expression during large-scale expansion of oral hMSCs. They link the result to earlier geroprotective reports for these peptides in other cell and animal models.
